Procedures for Selection of Editorial Board Members and Management Team
International Journal of Medical Justice (IJMJ)
1. Policy Statement
The International Journal of Medical Justice (IJMJ) is committed to maintaining a qualified, competent, and ethically sound Editorial Board and Management Team. The selection of individuals to these roles shall be based on merit, professional expertise, and a formal selection process, with final approval by the Governing Council.
2. Purpose
This policy defines the criteria and procedures for selecting members of the Editorial Board and Management Team to ensure quality governance and operational excellence within IJMJ.
Part I: Editorial Board Members
3. Eligibility Criteria
Candidates for Editorial Board positions must:
· Hold a recognized postgraduate or doctoral degree in a relevant discipline.
· Have a proven track record of academic publications and/or editorial experience.
· Demonstrate ethical conduct with no history of professional misconduct.
· Be actively involved in academia, research, or relevant professional practice.
· Show commitment to the mission and peer review process of IJMJ.
4. Selection Procedure
a. Call for Nominations
· Nominations may be submitted by current Editorial Board members, reviewers, or stakeholders.
· Self-nominations are permitted with a letter of intent and supporting credentials.
b. Screening
· The Editorial Committee evaluates nominations based on academic qualifications, publication history, and prior editorial experience.
c. Recommendation
· Suitable candidates are formally recommended by the Editorial Committee.
d. Final Approval
· All recommendations must be ratified by the Governing Council before appointment.
5. Tenure and Reappointment
· Editorial Board Members are appointed for a term of three (3) years, renewable based on performance.
· Reappointments require review and recommendation by the Editorial Committee and approval by the Governing Council.
6. Duties and Responsibilities
· Participate in peer review processes.
· Contribute to strategic decisions regarding journal content and scope.
· Promote the journal within professional circles.
· Adhere to the journal’s ethical and confidentiality standards.
Part II: Management Team Members
7. Eligibility Criteria
Management Team members must:
· Have relevant qualifications in publishing, communications, administration, IT, finance, or operations.
· Demonstrate managerial, organizational, and technical competencies as per role.
· Exhibit a professional and ethical track record.
· Possess excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
8. Key Roles May Include:
· Managing Editor
· Production Manager
· IT and Website Administrator
· Finance and Accounts Officer
· Marketing and Communications Officer
· Administrative Coordinator
9. Selection Procedure
a. Identification of Needs
· Vacant or new positions are identified by the Editor-in-Chief or Secretary of the Governing Council.
b. Call for Applications or Nominations
· Open calls may be issued or internal nominations made, based on skill needs.
c. Evaluation
· The Management Committee or appointed panel evaluates applications based on relevant qualifications and experience.
d. Formal Recommendation
· Selected candidates are recommended by the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor.
e. Governing Council Approval
· All appointments require formal approval by the Governing Council.
10. Tenure and Performance Review
· Management Team members are appointed for a term of two (2) years, subject to annual performance evaluations.
· Tenure may be renewed upon review and approval.
11. Removal or Resignation
· A member may be removed for non-performance, misconduct, or policy violation.
· Members may resign with one month’s notice in writing.
12. Amendment to Policy
This policy may be amended by the Governing Council at any time based on evolving operational needs, with appropriate notice to all concerned.
